History of Islita

In
1996, the first seven acres
of the Islita Reserve were purchased from the Quiroz family who own
the local attraction "The Monkey Restaurant and Bar" next
to the property.
The Quiroz family
had farmed the property for many years and then reforested the property
and returned it to the "wild." Remaining on the land are mango,
avocado, banana, citrus and cashew trees.
The land was purchased as a package by a group of individuals from California
and Arizona. A permanent greenspace and regulations for building and
selling were written into a legal document. Each property owner in the
group received a deed and possession right to a half-acre building site.
Within two years the partners decided to buy the land between the original
property and the ocean. This completed the reserve and ensured the ocean
views forever.
A Plan Regulador and concession
rights for this special ocean front land is soon to be obtained
from the government. The Plan Regulador is simply a development plan
required by the government for land within 200 meters of the ocean.
